What a magical week we have had in your lovely home.
Remarkably, none of us experienced any major meltdowns or terminal disagreements-which is quite an accomplishment when eleven family members spend an extended period of time together. And we have your fabulous house to thank for that. No detail has been overlooked-the furniture, bed linens, bathrooms, soaps, light fixtures, kitchen ware, etc. etc.-everything is just what a visitor could only hope for.
We visited some of the beautiful perched villages during our stay; however, our favorite times were swimming in your fabulous pool and chatting on the patio. Each night, cooking dinner in your amazing kitchen was a family affair-and thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
Thank you every so much for giving us all — my 5 grandchildren (ages 3,5,6,7,8) 2 sons and their wives, my husband and I — the opportunity to experience a week of pure pleasure, your mas is truly wondrous!!! ~Martha from Asheville, North Carolina~
Hate to leave As I get ready to leave this morning, my heart is heavy. There is something about this place that words cannot describe. I am amazed by the beauty and comfortable home you provided. Our stay was simply amazing and marvelous, and could not have been better.
Thank you so much for allowing us to share a small part of what you’ve created. I will always remember this week as the trip of a lifetime. ~Holly from Napa Valley, CA~
Blessed Provence What the freakin heck??!! Just when I thought I’ve seen it all, I find that not only had I not seen it all, but there is a whole other world right here in Provence! We had so much fun and laughter and joy and passion, this place is truly blessed. God bless you and this home and thank you for such a wonderful place to stay. ~Gordon, Napa Valley, CA~
WOW!!! What an absolute GEM Mas de la Perdrix is! I had heard it was wonderful, but it really has surpassed every expectation. The décor, comfort, proximity to villages, your recommendations were all absolutely perfect. Being here with people I love was the icing on the cake.
I absolutely cannot think of a better place to spend my 50th birthday. We loved Chef Ronald and Sun E Bikes, hopping town to town to your restaurant recommendations and cooking in your fabulous kitchen.Merci! ~Carolyn, Napa Valley~
We Loved everything about this wonderful place, especially your beautiful villa! We had a marvelous time. Thank you for all the perfect recommendations. We have amazing memories. ~Debbie and Peet, Kansas City, MO~
So many superlatives necessary I don’t know where to start. You have done such an incredible job of renovating this house. Everything was thoroughly explained and so comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor space very much — quintessential Provence.
~Robert from Santa Fe, NM~
Your HouseBook has been invaluable! ~Frances from Canada~
The Best! We’ve been to Provence many times, but this was the best. We really enjoyed your home as headquarters for our Provence adventures. ~John and Mary Beth from St. Paul, MN~
Mas de la Perdrix has set the bar so high I fear you’ve done us a disservice. We’re not certain how our next week in Italy can possibly measure up. We’ll miss these beautiful surroundings, the gardens, the welcoming warmth of the house, the art and this marvelous kitchen. Mas de la Perdrix is a magnificent gathering place for laughter and stories, for celebrating friendships and for living in the moment. ~Susan from North Oaks, MN~
Perfect Home For Our Adventures in Provence ~ Of all my visits to the Luberon Valley, none has been so graced with welcoming warmth, comfort, and the provision of every amenity I could imagine (and some I couldn’t, like the marvelous shower). This vacation home more than lives up to its billing. While staying there, we enjoyed a fire in the monumental hearth each evening, several meals prepared in the meticulously equipped kitchen, trips through the neighboring towns and markets, and some memorable dining out (in November! Al fresco!) experiences (e.g., Le Petit Ecole, Cafe de la Poste in Goult, the Restanque in St. Saturnin les Apt). I recommend this property to everyone I talk to, and plan to return for a visit with my son and his family. ~ Julia, Berthoud, CO ~
What A Magnificent Home! We had a fabulous experience spending a week at Mas de La Perdrix several weeks ago, after a week in Paris. Both the home and the many outings to local villages and markets were perfect for our family gathering. Located in a hamlet (“Hameau”) near the beautiful hilltop town of Roussillon, the historic stone Mas is both intimate and expansive.
Each bedroom suite has its own personality in décor and provides private space. All of the rooms on both levels open to beautiful grounds with vistas of the Luberon Valley and the low mountains beyond. Delightful patio spaces are laid out along the length of the home as a transition to the gardens, pool and fields. The two story living and dining area, with fireplace and balcony library, open through glass doors to the patios. The comfortable sofas, antique furniture and tasteful original art work provide a warm, inviting setting for conversations.
The centerpiece of the entire home is the beautiful kitchen and adjacent dining patio. This felt perfect to us, symbolically, given the wonderful Provencal meals we enjoyed all week. The kitchen’s large center island was our frequent gathering place to make plans for the day, visit over coffee or rose’ wine, or do food preparation of fresh produce, cheeses, meats, & pastries purchased at the variety of local outdoor markets. The kitchen is very thoughtfully laid out and equipped with an amazing assortment of high quality cookware. The kitchen flows directly out to the main dining patio, which hosted many of our family gatherings with gorgeous views of the gardens and valley. Close by is an outdoor living room patio under an arbor of wisteria vines. There is also a dining terrace with sink and serving area on the second level which is a delightful setting for meals on a rainy day.
Each day of our visit, we ventured out to one of the many nearby villages, usually on its market day. Some of these historic villages, like Roussillon, are perched on hilltops or hillsides. Others are on the valley floor and each is unique and authentic. Each day of the week there is an outdoor market in the heart of a different village. These markets are a visual feast for the eyes and tastes! Local farmers and other vendors fill the streets with colorful tables of cheeses, honey, flowers, fruits and vegetables, charcuterie (meats), clothing, table linens, and various accessories. From the markets, we went to excellent restaurants in the villages for lunch, where we had some of the best meals we have ever experienced.
The highlight of this wonderful week was a birthday celebration for one of our group, prepared by a local gourmet chef recommended by the owners of Mas de la Perdrix. Chef Ronald prepared a delicious seven course meal while we visited with him around the central island in the kitchen of the Mas. After preparing the meal and decorating the table with flowers from the garden, Chef Ronald served the dinner, culminating with his fabulous gateau flambé (flaming birthday cake) to the delight of our entire group!
We enthusiastically recommend the beautiful Mas de la Perdrix and all of the adventures it brought to us for anyone wanting the perfect Provencal experience! ~ Tom and Kathleen, Boulder, CO ~
Best Vacation Ever! Truly Magical!! We recently spent a week at Mas de la Perdrix and it was absolutely fabulous. This 250 year old home has been renovated with all the modern comforts for a wonderful stay. It is located in the charming hameau of Barbiers, which is located just a couple of minutes away from Roussillon, Gordes and a multitude of other charming hillside villages. A hameau is a small hamlet of houses that the farmers lived in and many of the buildings in this one has been owned by the same family for centuries.
The area makes you truly feel like you have stepped back in time. A wonderful, slower paced, relaxing time. The Luberon Valley is so picturesque – with vineyards, orchards and fields – punctuated by “you can’t believe they are real” centuries old villages with the most charming stone architecture. The view out the back of Mas de la Perdrix is a treat in itself… a beautifully landscaped backyard and pool with a wonderful wisteria-covered back patio…. the red cliffs of Roussillon can be seen in the distance… and a winery is within walking distance from the house. Every day one of the villages has a market and the owners of the house have taken the time to put together a whole book of information that tells you what days each market takes place and what specialties to look for at each one. Be sure and buy some Banon and Epoisses cheese at the markets! Also take advantage of the book’s restaurant recommendations, we had some truly wonderful meals at the restaurants in the villages.
The house itself was like staying in something out of a decor magazine. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with a rainfall showerhead. The living and dining room are so homey and comfortable… although you will probably want to enjoy the outside patio as much as possible for relaxing and dining. The furnishings and artwork are a treat and there is an an ice maker in the freezer which you will really appreciate if you are from the States. The kitchen is so incredibly well appointed… there is nothing you will need as far as pots/pans, utensils, dishes… everything is fit for a gourmet cook. And speaking of gourmet cooks… be sure and book Chef Ronald to come cook for you one night. He is fabulous! A cross between a cooking lesson and a catered dinner he is very personable and engaging. A fun night for everyone.
Thank you Mas de la Perdrix for making our first trip to Provence so special. We will be back soon! ~ Shannon, Highlands Ranch, CO ~
Dream House Is Right! “Dream House” is definitely the correct definition of this beautiful and comfortable home. The surrounding villages and markets are enchanting but the grounds and lovely house make it hard to not just stay there and enjoy all that it offers. When you do venture out finding the great restaurants, breathtaking beauty of the countryside and the charm of the surrounding villages makes it even more fulfilling. I can not imagine a more perfect setting for a truly delightful experience in Provence than at Mas de la Perdrix. ~ KaySue, Ponca City, OK ~
A Delight! Everything about our stay at Mas de la Perdrix was delightful. It started with the ease of making arrangements with the owners, who are very responsive and of highest integrity. It accelerated with our arrival at the Mas, nestled in a hamlet, and being welcomed by house manager Tara with some much-appreciated goodies. It continued throughout our stay as we luxuriated in the comforts and beauty of the home, its gardens and pool, and the wider surroundings.
We stayed several places in Provence during our trip, and this was by far the nicest. The villa is constructed out of fine materials: smooth stone floors, comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, and a remarkably well-equipped kitchen. We equally enjoyed relaxing outdoors with its own numerous spaces for relaxing to the sounds of the fountain and the view of Roussillon’s ochre cliffs.
The home is well designed for several couples or a family to enjoy common space and yet still have privacy. Although we were only two people, and it was fun to imagine returning with family or friends another time, it didn’t feel too large for only one couple.
While it’s not in walking distance of a village center, the location is ideal for easy excursions to many of the most notable markets and restaurants in Provence. We enjoyed traveling to markets each morning and then retreating to Mas de la Paradise (as we dubbed it), our basket bulging with local foods & wines.
The owners have assembled a notebook that contains all the information one needs to use the appliances and care for their home, plus numerous suggestions for local restaurants and activities. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our visit and the only difficulty was leaving. We hope to return someday! ~ Marjorie & Michael from Cambridge, MA ~
Idyllic Home In late September 2013, our friends from around the country met in the most idyllic private home in the Luberon Valley. From the pictures, we knew it was going to be lovely but the pictures can’t begin to describe the elegant and immaculate home-it has the luxury feel of a 5 star hotel, yet the charm and comfort of a real home. The rustic Provençal lifestyle is a great joy, but so is WIFI, a dishwasher, microwave, Viking stove, multiple refrigerators, modern plumbing and electricity. The private entrance to the home is through an electronic gate into a well landscaped garden and pool area.
If you have any local difficulties or language problems during your stay, it’s a great comfort to know that Tara, the multilingual house manager is always available and delighted to help with anything. We had a wonderful week, exploring the region and cuisine.
We feel fortunate to have had the beauty of Mas de la Perdrix as our daily base, a paradise and so perfectly centered in the most beautiful region. Our group of 7 friends spent most of the time there outside, cooking/sharing the kitchen and at the grand tables inside and out. We loved all the lovely surrounding towns where we went to the markets every day. Some days it was hard to decide to leave Mas de la Perdrix. Can’t wait for a return trip. ~ Marc and Francie, Colorado & friends from San Francisco & South Africa. ~
Thank You, Thank You! Merci beaucoup for providing such a gorgeous setting for our Luberon vacation. Your home is beautiful! We loved working in your kitchen after shopping the markets. Once we were oriented, we realized what a great location you have to explore the area. ~ Patti, John, Nancy and David, Washington and New York ~
Beautiful Design ~ Loved your design aesthetic! Looking forward to seeing a spread in Cote du Sud. Your home is a true gem; love all the fine architectural touches and the juxtaposition of your artwork and the interior settings. ~ Elaine & Wayne from New Mexico ~
Paradise in Provence! Coming from busy and noisy Manhattan, spending a week in this house was paradise! A delight for all senses: looking at the beautiful vistas; listening to the cicadas, birdsong and trickling water of the fountain; smelling the air perfumed with honeysuckle and tasting the regions bounty in wine and produce (not to mention the daily intake of delicious breads and croissants!!) We hope to come back again! ~ Mark, Lena, Sonya and Jake, New York City ~
Exceeded Expectations What a wonderful week! We enjoyed trading notes with Marilyn leading up to this trip, but your house truly exceeded every expectation. We had a blast! Our families plant to return. We (our four kids included) will recommend this place to all of our friends and relatives in New York and L.A. ~ The Morgans and Bennetts ~
Truly Amazing! The most amazing place to stay with my family for my 80th birthday. Have enjoyed every moment in this beautiful home- One complaint- not long enough! ~ Sheila from Cape Town, South Africa ~
Thank You A Thousand Times! A lovely sanctuary, a place out of time! Merci mille fois! ~ Trish and Greg, Boulder, CO ~
Hope To Come Again ~ We had a truly wonderful time at your home. Your renovations are superb, the location is extremely convenient, and you have equipped the house very thoughtfully (particularly the kitchen). The housebook was incredibly valuable; we used it as a reference many times each day. Tara was extremely helpful, from excusing our tardy arrival (we hit very heavy traffic and then got lost trying to avoid it) to putting the various keys into the locks so we wouldn’t have to rummage for them, to arranging for a chef to prepare a meal for us. The two bicycles were particularly useful; my older daughter and I went cycling several mornings. She hates exercise of any kind, but loved cycling with me on the local roads.
The downstairs bedroom was great for my in-laws, because they didn’t have to go up and down stairs. The bedroom above that was great for our older daughter, because she could get pretty far away from her parents. I would say the house exceeded our expectations, and we would certainly recommend it to others and hope to stay there again. ~ The Wilson Family, New York ~
All We Could Ask For! What a lovely vacation spot! The house is beautifully decorated, with wonderful art, stylish furniture, and a kitchen that works in every sense of the word — as a gathering spot for friends to share cooking tasks, or to watch and sip the local wines while those more skilled (including Chef Ronald) take on the meal preparation. For runners or cyclists, the roads nearby are mostly flat, and paved, but we found a wonderful route that took us through the neighboring vineyards on our morning run. At one point, I looked around and realized that the view I was seeing was largely unchanged for hundreds or thousands of years, and completely unspoiled.
You feel the history of the area all around you, but there is every modern amenity you could possibly need. There was even an espresso machine in the kitchen that made lattes every bit as good as Starbucks! The wireless internet connection worked great in the kitchen and living room, so I was able to keep in touch with friends back home.
I hear there was a television with 200 channels, but I was never even tempted to turn it on, and I don’t think anyone in our group did. ~ Liz and Ceal, Boulder, CO ~
The Best Way to Experience France ~ Mas de la Perdrix is a dream! For obvious reasons, it felt as though we were in a private home, and we all appreciated your art, the well-appointed kitchen and the small touches which made for a very special holiday. Not only were Marilyn and Jim incredibly easy to work with, but the detailed information they offered from their own experiences, proved to be invaluable.
This is the place for those who want to immerse themselves in the French countryside, but don’t want to give up the luxuries of a large, well-appointed kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and tasteful décor. ~ Tom Burns, Phoenix, AZ ~
Outstanding Kitchen! Quelles Bonnes vacances! My family enjoyed a very pleasant stay. This house has been very nicely designed and the kitchen makes one particularly envious. I really enjoyed your book collection. ~ The Jacksons, UK ~
Coming Home Where We’d Never Been. From the first moment I stepped into the foyer of Mas de la Perdrix, I felt I had come home after a long journey. Photographs and pictures had given me some sense of what to expect, but what I didn’t expect was the emotional impact of this magical and serene place. Mas de la Perdrix is located in the tiny hameau (hamlet) of Les Barbiers in the Luberon valley of the south of France. We found ourselves conveniently within striking distance of several charming hill towns such as Roussillon, Gordes, Apt, and Bonnieux. Each of these villages is very proud of, and rightfully so, their specialty outdoor markets. “Foraging” for our supper each night was a delight as was the super-modern salle de cuisine of Mas de la Perdrix. This is a kitchen straight out of a foodie’s dream!
The home has a centuries old exterior and a bright, modern interior with every imaginable convenience. Of the many well-planned features of the home, the very private bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, has to rate an A+ for any families or couples spending time together.
We were often torn by our desire to just sit outside by the pool and enjoy the peaceful countryside or jump in the car for an excursion to Isle sur la Sorgue, Arles or Avignon. Mas de la Perdrix will calm your senses and restore your soul. Apprécier! ~ The Shires, Boulder, CO ~
Memorable Week ~ We loved your fantastically well-equipped kitchen. It was so nice to find ourselves at a place where the knives were actually sharp and the pans weren’t battered aluminum.
Many thanks for providing us with a very memorable week. ~ G. Pattison, Kathmandu Nepal ~
Dream House ~ Truly, you have thought of everything, right down to the scented soap! Thank you for creating your ‘dream house’.

Peaceful. We were very much ‘away with the fairies’ in the most peaceful and wonderful home. ~ Richard and Sue, Devon, UK ~
What a Week! We truly felt like we were living in a movie from the French cinema; zipping around the beautiful countryside, stopping randomly at all the charming villages for shopping and long, leisurely lunches. Then to come back to your gorgeous home and prepare gourmet dinners with all of the fresh, delicious foods collected at the market of the day were priceless adventures in Provence. We all crave to come back. ~ Cheryl, Ken, Stacy, Colleen, Sylvie, Allen and Cheryl, Boulder, CO ~
